Cove has recently launched two exciting new pieces of equipment—a wireless outdoor camera and a wireless doorbell camera. These cameras come as part of our new partnership with Eufy Security, and Cove is excited to be integrating new technologies with our systems.

This article will introduce the basic features and capabilities of the new Eufy doorbell camera and provide a few tips for getting started with your camera.

Why Do I Need a Doorbell Camera?

Doorbell security cameras are an easy way to monitor your home’s exterior, and specifically the most common entry point—the front door. There are several reasons why someone might choose to install a doorbell camera:

Security: A doorbell camera can provide an added layer of security for your home, as it can alert you when someone approaches your front door. This can help deter potential burglars or intruders.

Convenience: Almost everyone receives packages from Amazon or eBay at some point, and doorbell cameras allow you to see who is at your front door without having to physically go to the door. This can be particularly helpful if you're expecting a delivery or if you're in a part of your home where you can't easily hear the doorbell.

Peace of mind: A doorbell camera can provide peace of mind by allowing you to monitor your front door even when you're not home. You can check in on deliveries, keep an eye on your property, and even communicate with visitors through the camera's 2-way audio feature.

The Eufy Doorbell Camera—What Is It?

The Eufy doorbell camera incorporates the same basic technology as many other doorbell cameras. The main components of this video doorbell:

  • A motion-activated camera with recording capabilities
  • A 2-way microphone/speaker
  • A compatible mobile app
  • A doorbell button
  • A Wi-Fi chime

This camera is wireless and rechargeable. It should need to be recharged about every four months, although it may need more frequent charging depending on the amount of activity it records.

Any video that your camera records will be stored locally on the Wi-Fi chime. In order to access and download recorded footage, you will need to open the Eufy app and download it from there. Local storage is not the same as cloud storage, but it can be accessed similarly, through the app.

What Makes the Eufy Doorbell Camera Special?

The Eufy doorbell camera has a several features that make it special:

HD Video Quality: At 1080p, the quality of your live streaming and video clips is top-notch. This is helpful when identifying visitors, intruders, and more.

AI Motion Detection: The camera is only triggered by human motion. It will record for a few seconds each time it is triggered.

Motion Zones: You can choose which parts of the camera’s field of view will trigger it to start recording. This can come in handy if you live on a busy street where there is a lot of movement, human or otherwise. This feature allows you to select certain areas that the camera will ignore when triggering.

Wi-Fi Doorbell Chime: This is a unique feature compared to Cove’s other smart doorbell cameras, which have all relied on your current doorbell chime. The Wi-Fi chime makes for a slightly quicker installation process and is ideal for homes with no current doorbell wiring.

Local Video Storage: All of your camera footage recordings will be stored on the Wi-Fi doorbell chime locally instead of on the cloud. There are positives and negatives to both local storage and cloud recordings, but some of the upsides of local storage include the ability to save clips for a longer term, and at slightly higher quality.

Long Battery Life: This video doorbell operates for up to 120 days (approx. 4 months) on a single charge. And since it is wireless in design, charging the camera is extremely easy to do.

Setting Up Your Eufy Doorbell Camera

When you first receive your Eufy doorbell camera, you’ll need to charge it. Once it’s fully charged, it can be mounted near your front door. This doorbell is wireless, so you will not need to connect it to your current doorbell wiring.

However, you may choose to place it where your current doorbell is located. Your Wi-Fi chime should be placed within range of your home Wi-Fi router and your doorbell camera. The chime must be plugged into a standard AC outlet in order to function properly.

Everything is connected via the Eufy Security app. You can download this app from the App Store or the Google Play Store. You will need to download the app, create a login, and pair your camera and chime to the app.
